Recognizing greasy hair is easy: the roots appear greasy and flat, giving the impression of being dirty and unhealthy. The good news is that, thanks to the advice of our biologist and trichologist Daniela Mantovani, you'll discover how to treat it to improve its health and appearance.
Contrary to popular belief, it is not always a question of greasy hair with excessive sebum production ( seborrhea ), but also with excessive sweating of the skin ( hyperhidrosis ) or a combination of the two anomalies.
Since these are two different conditions , to understand which specific treatment and which products to use, it is first important to understand what our skin is like.
The most accurate diagnostic method is through a skin analysis with a trichocamera , a service that the Phyto Holistic Salons of Emmebi Italia offer before carrying out any Phyto Holistic Treatment.
If you can't find a Phyto Holistic Salon in your area, you can try doing a self-assessment of your skin:
- HYPERHIDROSIS : It often causes itching and a pungent, ammonia-like odor. Hair may appear damp and heavy, requiring frequent washing, and the scalp tends to feel hot or sweat frequently, sometimes for emotional or hormonal reasons.
- SEBORRHEA : Itching is rarely noticeable, and the odor tends to be more rancid. The scalp is not hot, and the hair remains thick but can fall out if neglected or mistreated.
You may experience changes in your body due to hormonal, emotional, or seasonal changes (you sweat more in summer and tend to experience hyperhidrosis), or you may experience them at different times in your life.
Greasy hair: how to treat it, from shampooing to drying.
Once you've identified your problem, it becomes easier to choose the right products for your skin. With the help of Dr. Daniela Mantovani, biologist and trichologist at Emmebi Italia, we've created the ideal hair care routine for oily hair with natural cosmetics that guarantee better results over time than more commercial products.
STEP 1) Prepare the skin
Sanitizing and purifying oily skin is a fundamental step that serves to prepare the scalp to receive the next product and to reduce thinning of the hair shaft.
What to use : a delicate product like Bionature Purifying Mousse , to be applied to dry hair before each wash.
Directions for use : Shake well and apply one pump to each area of the scalp (front, back, and sides). Massage gently, leave on for 3–5 minutes, and rinse.
Bionature Purifying Mousse can also be used on the face for shiny and oily areas (avoid contact with eyes).

STEP 2) Cleanse the skin
Both seborrhea and hyperhidrosis require frequent washing, but always with gentle shampoos, without aggressive surfactants or silicones.
What to use : Bionature Sebum-Normalizing Shampoo in case of seborrhea or Bionature Hyperhidrosis Shampoo for hyperhidrosis.
Directions for use : Warm the product between your hands, apply it to your skin, and massage for 2–3 minutes with gentle movements. Use warm-cold water to avoid stimulating sweating or sebum production.

STEP 3) Moisturize lengths and ends
If you have damaged or treated lengths, after shampooing, deeply hydrate the lengths and ends, never the roots.
What to use : Bionature Acidifying Mask , which makes hair soft, elastic and rebalances the pH.
How to use : apply to lengths and ends, leave on for 2–4 minutes (up to 10 with the addition of Bionature Mineralizing Lotion for an intensive treatment).
STEP 4) Apply the specific lotion
Complete the routine with a specific lotion to rebalance the skin.
What to use : Bionature Moisturizing Lotion for hyperhidrosis or Bionature Sebum-Normalizing Lotion for seborrhea.
Directions for use : Shake and spray onto 6–8 areas of skin, massaging gently with your fingertips.

STEP 5) Dry
Use a heat protectant like Bionature Mineralizing Lotion before drying to protect the hair shaft and restore hydration and shine.
How to use : Blow dry on medium heat, making sure the roots are completely dry to avoid residual moisture.
By following this complete hair routine consistently, oily hair will appear cleaner, shinier and healthier over time.
