This year, we're celebrating World Afro Day by sharing 5 professional tips for caring for one of the most difficult hair types to manage: Afro-curly hair.
Since 1990, at Emmebi Italia, we have been cultivating diversity by offering professional products that respect and enhance different hair types, even the most challenging ones like Afro-curly hair.
Although it is often perceived with negative connotations, we believe that diversity is the true expression of our uniqueness and most authentic beauty.
Afro-curly hair: what are its characteristics?
According to André Walker's hair type identification system, Afro-curly hair is part of type 4 ( coilly hair ) divided into 4a, 4b, 4c depending on how tight the curl is.

The very tight spiral prevents sebum from penetrating the lengths to the ends. This makes Afro-curly hair easily dry, brittle, and damaged , especially when subjected to chemical treatments (straightening/bleaching), heat (straighteners/blow dryers), and the elements.
Afro-curly hair: 5 tips for daily care
Managing Afro-curly hair is difficult, but not impossible. With proper care and acceptance, it can become a distinctive beauty feature. We asked Alberto Calabria, Technical Trainer at Emmebi Italia, for 5 tips for hydrated, soft, and shiny hair.

1) CLEANSE
Choose a professional shampoo with an acidic pH. We recommend Nutry Care Shampoo : apply, massage, and leave on for 1 minute , then rinse.
For washing, prefer natural bottled water if possible: the chlorine in tap water can make hair stiff and dull.
2) REGENERATE
After shampooing, apply a highly hydrating mask that closes the cuticles and seals in moisture. Apply Nutry Care Mask from root to tip: comb, massage scalp and lengths, then rinse thoroughly.

3) HYDRATES
Towel-dry your hair and apply a hydrating leave-in cream , like Nutry Care Cream . Distribute evenly from roots to ends using a wide-toothed comb.
4) DRY
Use the diffuser : Dry the ends on high speed for 12–15 minutes without touching the hair; then remove the diffuser and quickly dry the roots. Minimize contact and direct heat to reduce frizz.

5) LIGHT UP
Finish with a few drops of Argan Oil to boost hydration and shine: dispense into the palm of your hand and distribute evenly along lengths and ends.
